Work From Home as a Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is a relatively new career. Without the aid of technology, working as a virtual assistant would not be possible. As a virtual assistant you work from your own home providing administrative, clerical and other support services as needed to busy executives and business owners who need to focus on their business, and not on their clerical tasks.

A virtual assistant(VA) will save a business money. Because the VA works from their own, fully equipped home office, the client does not need to pay for office space and equipment. And because a VA is only paid for the hours they actually work, the client does not need to pay a full time employee when what they need is just a few hours per week.

There are two types of virtual assistants. The generalist performs general office and clerical support. A specialist will focus on a certain field or area of expertise, such as bookkeeping, real estate, legal, or web development.

Virtual Assistants perform a variety of tasks such as:
* Handle email and postal mail
* Making appointments and scheduling
* Fax/receive faxes
* Research of all sorts
* Plan meetings and events
* Plan parties (business and personal), weddings, reunions
* Make travel arrangements — business and personal
* Handle reservations for seminars given by clients
* Writing
* Proof reading
* Copy editing
* Desktop publishing
* Newsletter publishing (print and internet)
* Coordination of web design/hosting
* Mailings
* Buy gifts/cards for customers of clients
* List managing (majordomo, listserv)
* Reminder service
* Transcription and Dictation
* Bill paying
* Bookkeeping — business and personal
* Manage vendor relations
* Create/maintain databases

To work as a virtual assistant you will need a fully equipped home office, including a high speed internet connection, an up to date computer, and the latest office programs. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office, and be comfortable using instant messaging.

Be careful when looking for work as a virtual assistant. There are many scams out there that will charge you a fee, and then give you a list of jobs that you could find on your own. Remember, you never should have to pay to get a job.

One site that does offer virtual assistant jobs is

First of all I must say you have written on a very good topic. I work from home from last 1 year and I completely agree that working from home makes so many things easier and convenient. No doubt there is not going to be huge earnings but there are so many other things which are more important than money I think. We can work at our terms. Virtual assistant job has become very easier because of the access to internet these day. As you said there are scams too in this kind of jobs but scams are everywhere so we have to look for the best. Thanks.

As a small business owner, outsourcing work to Virtual Assistants is fast becoming a popular and intelligent decision. The business owner saves enormous amounts of money by cutting the costs of offices and equipment overhead as well as expensive benefits packages. I am also running a small business using this facility by valleyhq I am very satisfied and feel like I am able to increase my business now.

I have been blogging for 2 years and I would say it is not an easy journey. If I have discovered your blog earlier, I would have made as much money as you do :)

I have bookmarked your blog and trust me that I will come back for more articles.

I almost applied to become a virtual assistant a few months back but decided that it’s not my forte. I do however know that the income generated in this endeavor is actually quite good. But like any work, it will eat your valued time and will keep you busy. And yes, those who are interested have to be cautious when applying online because scams are everywhere.

This is gaining momentum in Australia… I think this is a great idea and allows women (in particular) to stay in the workforce… I think there is advantages to this in that, as in my experience there is a high turnover in PA’s who decide to leave the workforce all together, and this alleviates this issue somewhat…

Great Article…!
